Official Press Release
New York, NY – Jim Hanley’s Universe, NY’s Premier Comic Book Retailer, is proud to welcome cartoonist, TERRY MOORE, to their Manhattan location on Friday, June 1st. Mr. Moore will be promoting the final issue of his long running comic book, STRANGERS IN PARADISE (ending on May 30th with Issue #90). Mr. Moore will be appearing from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.
Terry Moore is a Texas based cartoonist who was influenced by Charles Schulz’s Peanuts. For nearly 14 years, Moore has drawn Strangers In Paradise, the story of Katchoo and Francine, two friends whose relationship spans years and has its share of ups and downs. The series is noteworthy for its appeal to a non-traditional audience, in particular women who would not ordinarily consider themselves readers of comic books. It is believed that the series’ audience is approximately 50% female, although this has not been verified. This is an unusually high figure in the heavily male-dominated comics field. Moore has written and drawn all 106 issues.
The first issue of Strangers In Paradise was published by Antarctic Press in November 1993. Since then, it’s been published by three different studios/publishers (most prominently, Abstract Studio, Moore’s own imprint) and has won an Eisner Award, a National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award and a GLAAD Award. Today, Strangers In Paradise is read worldwide and has been reprinted in seven languages. When the series reaches its planned conclusion, it will include a total of 106 issues, serialized currently in three “volumes”.
