It looks like Jim Gordon has found himself a new job. The events of the second season of "Gotham" put the character through his paces, and in a new promo for the upcoming third season, released on the show's Twitter page, he is relishing his newfound freedom as a bounty hunter:

Seen enjoying a drink at a bar, a voiceover from the character reveals his thoughts: "These days, I go home when I want. Get drunk when I want. And the end of the day, I can sleep, because saving Gotham's not my job anymore." A dramatic shot of Gordon's badge hitting the ground accompanies that final sentence -- it seems that, for a short time, at least, the hero will be more interested in his own welfare than that of Gotham and the GCPD.

Season three, which takes place six months after the events of the season two finale, will see the return of fan favorites Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) and Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong). At least at the start, Gordon will spend time in Season 3 tracking down some of Strange's specimens that were released by Mooney at the end of Season 2, and doing some soul searching along the way. Executive producer John Stephens promised in an interview with Zap2it that Gordon's path to regaining his idealistic nature "will not be a smooth one."

Season 3 of "Gotham" will debut Sept. 19 on Fox. The series also stars Donal Logue (Harvey Bullock), David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne), Sean Pertwee (Alfred Pennyworth) and Michael Chiklis (Captain Barnes).
