He'll play Oscar, "a devoted single father who moves into Jessica’s building as the new superintendent." Although his young son is enamored with Jessica (Krysten Ritter) and her powers, Oscar keeps his distance, concerned about the trouble that so often follows people like her.

“J.R. is an incredible addition to our cast, bringing complex and subtle emotion and humor,” executive producer Melissa Rosenbergsaid in a statement. “He exudes warmth, edge and intelligence, and blends perfectly with our tone.”

Ramirez, who played Ted Grant on The CW's Arrow and Julio on Starz's Power, joins fellow newcomers Leah Gibson (Twilight) and two-time Oscar nominee Janet McTeer.

The Netflix series, which will be entirely helmed by female directors this season, is expected to continue production through September.

Based on the Marvel Comics character created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter as the troubled super-powered private investigator. Ritter can next be seen as Jessica Jones on The Defenders, which arrives next month on Netflix.
