Jed Whedon, brother of acclaimed “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon, will make his directorial debut in the upcoming “Agents of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” episode “Self Control.” The episode will act as the final in the show’s Life Model Decoy arc, and will precede the arc building towards the show’s season finale.
“I figured just throw me in the deep end and see if I can swim, and I did write a little bit of a deep end in some of it,” said Whedon in an interview with IGN. “I think it worked out.”
Whedon co-created “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” with his wife, Maurissa Tancharoen, and brother, Joss Whedon. “Self Control” marks the first time Whedon has directed an episode of the show he helped develop, and wraps up the Life Model Decoy arc in which robots in disguise have thoroughly infiltrated the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. The episode will feature a fight scene that took days to film.
Prior to helming “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Whedon co-created and co-wrote “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” with Tancharoen, Joss Whedon and his other brother, Zack Whedon. Jed Whedon was also a writer on “Dollhouse,” a sci-fi television series created by Joss Whedon that aired between 2009 and 2010, which chronicled the downfall of a corporation that rented out reprogrammed human beings to wealthy clients for all manner of tasks.
Airing on the ABC network on February 21, the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” episode “Self Control” is directed by Jed Whedon and stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen and Chloe Bennet.
