They're remaking Heat?! Yes, but not the one you're thinking of. Before the 1995 classic starring Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and Val Kilmer blew minds, Burt Reynolds made a film of the same name in 1986. It's this earlier film that's getting the remake treatment from Expendables 2 director Simon West and action superstar Jason Statham, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Statham will star in the Reynolds role of Nick Escalante, a gambler who takes on the mob after they rough up one of his friends. The original film was written by William Goldman (The Princess Bride, Misery) based on a book he also wrote.

West not only directed Statham in Expendables 2, but also another remake called The Mechanic, which came out in 2011. The reunion vibe will continue thanks to Cory Yuen's involvement. Yuen, who directed Statham in The Transporter, has signed on to handle stunts and fight choreography. Heat is expected to start shooting in February.
