Even days away before their cameras role, Hollywood films can still have a way of throwing unexpected creative twists at industry watchers. Of course, in the case of the latest comic book movie curveball, the word may need to be Un-X-Pected.
In front of an August 23 production start, director Matthew Vaughn’s next installment in Fox’s X-Men franchise -Â the prequel “X-Men: First Class” -Â has seemingly called a casting audible as “Mad Men” actress January Jones has been cast as Emma Frost, Deadline Hollywood reports. This comes after initial reports that Alice Eve would take the role of the mutant known as the White Queen, although apparantly no official deal could be breached in that case.
Additionally, Deadline says that Zoe Kravitz has signed on to play Angel -Â not the high flying Warren Worthington version of the character from the original X-Men comics, but the outspoken teen of Grant Morrison’s “New X-Men” run -Â along with “Son of Rambow’s” Bill Milner as a young version of Magneto and Morgan Lily as “Young Raven” -Â perhaps a reference to Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique.
Overall, the final cast for the film should be almost 100% in place since filming starts in just five days, however with more and more news coming out about cast each week, more unknown mutants may be waiting in the wings.
