“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” director James Gunn has revealed an on-set picture of a “very special” spaceship that will seemingly play a pivotal role in the upcoming sequel. The image includes both Zoe Saldana and Pom Klementieff as Gamora and Mantis, respectively, in costume and holding scripts as members of the film’s crew work behind them. Gunn has yet to reveal the name or owner of the ship in question -- the interior of which is colorfully lit and comprised of swirling white supports.

According to Gunn’s post on Facebook, the ship’s design in the result of his collaboration with production designer Scott Chambliss, who served as production designer on “Star Trek Into Darkness” and is slated to do the same for the upcoming “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Gunn said he drew inspiration from the ‘80s movie adaptation of “Flash Gordon” and 1968’s “Barbarella.”

“This movie evolved/devolved much further into pulp and a realm of pure imagination, and I wanted the sets—practical, if possible—to match,” Gunn wrote.
