"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is five months away from hitting theaters, but director James Gunn has plenty of goodies to hold us over in the meantime. Today, he dropped a new photo of a character named Brahl, who will be played by "Super" star Stephen Blackehart. Blackehart's Brahl appears to be dressed in Ravager gear, though it's hard to tell if he's wearing the Ravagers' signature red because the photo was released in black and white.

"Happy Birthday to my very best pal in all the land and my only friend who knows both the historical ins-and-outs of the Third Punic War and how an air-conditioner works, Stephen Blackehart. Here he is as Brahl in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. #GotGVol2. Photo by Steve Agee," Gunn wrote on the photo, which he initially posted to Facebook.

It's worth noting that Brahl is, indeed, a character from Marvel Comics. A native to the planet Achernon, Brahl made his comic book debut in 1977's "Thor Annual" #6, where he was introduced as a member of the Minions of Menace. He has the ability to become intangible and wields energy blasts that can do the same to objects and other people. In the comics, he is also established as an enemy to the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Nevertheless, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has drastically changed some of the characters in the transition from page to screen, so that doesn't necessarily mean Brahl will be an enemy of the Guardians -- at least at first. For instance, in the movies, Peter Quill's father will be Ego the Living Planet instead of J'son, the King of Spartax; what's more, it seems like Ego the Living Planet -- who will be played by Kurt Russell -- will be a lot different from his comic book counterpart as well.

Set to the backdrop of “Awesome Mixtape #2,” Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2″ continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Opening May 5, 2017, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell.
