2K Games has released a new launch trailer for "The Darkness II," the sequel to the 2007 game based on the Top Cow comic of the same name. The trailer features Jackie Estacado as he showcases his new abilities set to background music by industrial metal band Nine Inch Nails. The clip also serves to introduce players to "The Darkness" universe and Jackie along with a short clip of his dead girlfriend, Jenny Romano.

"I never asked for The Darkness. It chose me," Jackie says, seated before a gun rack in a dark room. As invaders enter, he summons his demonic Darkling before wordlessly gunning down assailants, striding nonchalantly as he fires his pistols and commands his demon limbs to strangle and slice apart his enemies. The trailer ends with the leader of the strike force demanding the Darkness from Jackie. As the lights go down, Jackie's eyes begin to glow a sinister yellow as his demon limbs come into view. "You want it?" he asks. "Come and get it."

The trailer gives a very good idea of the essence of the game -- Jackie has The Darkness, others want it and Jackie is willing to do whatever it takes to keep it. With pistols and demons by his side, he'll destroy or eviscerate anyone who gets in his way. While it showcases no actual gameplay footage, a demo of the upcoming game recently hit Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, allowing players can experience the new quad-wielding system and gruesome executions firsthand.

"The Darkness II" hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on February 7.
