Revealed quietly via Box Office Mojo, the movie has long been expected to land the rating, with 20th Century Fox and star Ryan Reynolds saying as much as long ago as last April. However, the trailers and promo spots for the film have featured the dreaded "Not Yet Rated" tag up to this point.

The MPAA's official reason for the R rating is that the movie contains "strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity."

Directed by Tim Miller and written by "Zombieland's" Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, "Deadpool" stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, Brianna Hildebrand and Stefan Kapicic. The film is set to release on February 12.
