More than two months after he was reportedly cast as young Han Solo, Lucasfilm and Disney made it official today by introducing Alden Ehrenreich at "Star Wars" Celebration Europe.

The 26-year-old actor will star in the untitled 2018 "A Star Wars Story" film, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Production is expected to begin in January or February.

Appearing on the "Future Filmmakers" panel, Lord and Miller revealed that they auditioned 3,000 actors from across the globe to play the young Han Solo before settling on Ehrenreich. As it turns out, the young actor (who's perhaps best known for his role in "Hail, Caesar!") had been the first person to audition for the role.

Ehrenreich performed multiple screen tests, some of which included scenes with Chewbacca and the Millennium Falcon.
