Although FX and co-creator Ryan Murphy have been even more secretive than usual about the upcoming sixth season of "American Horror Story," its theme appears to have leaked through a couple of notable slip-ups.

Earlier in the week, Rotten Tomatoes listed the new season as "American Horror Story: The Mist," leading fans to suspect there may be more than a hint of truth in the title. Then an eagle-eyed Reddit user added fuel to the fire by pointing to a "TV Guide" listing that also references "The Mist."

Yet another clue comes from the numerous teasers for the series, one of which featured a horribly disfigured, four-legged creature crawling on railroad tracks. The promo's title? You guessed it: "The Mist."

FX Networks CEO John Landgraft claimed last month at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour that only one of the promos was accurate, and that the others were merely "misdirects." It's beginning to look as if "The Mist" may be the winner.

Although Murphy typically has announced the title and setting of each new season months before its premiere, this time not even the cast has been confirmed (although reports have indicated fans can expect the return of series veterans Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Cheyenne Jackson, Wes Bentley, Evan Peters, Matt Bomer and Leslie Jordan).

All will be revealed soon enough, as Season 6 of "American Horror Story" returns to FX on Sept. 14.
