Mila Kunis apparently is moving from Black Swan‘s understudy to Oz‘s Wicked Witch of the West, landing the role opposite James Franco in director Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful.
Vulture reports she met recently with Raimi and Franco, who thought the 27-year-old actress would be ideal for the prequel’s Theodorah, who goes on to become the menacing green-skinned figure familiar to fans of The Wizard of Oz. Kunis’ involvement apparently cemented Franco’s interest.
Written by David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Inkheart), Oz, The Great and Powerful details the origins of the young Wizard, as well as the legendary witches Glinda, Evanorah and her younger sister Theodorah.
According to Vulture, Kunis walked away from a role in Warner Bros.’ live-action adaptation of Akira, a project that, curiously enough, Franco as linked to just last week.
Kunis, who’s in big demand after Black Swan, is a rumored contender to play Lois Lane in director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot.
