You know what they say about boys and their toys, so it’s not much of a surprise to see Tony Stark has been busy building all kinds of task-specific suits in his down time. The guy’s a world-famous superhero hero who literally saved the whole planet in The Avengers, plus he’s got more money than he can count, so why not get a little specific when creating these things? From what we can tell, they’ll actually play an important part in Iron Man 3.
Rumors started swirling in September that the Mark XLVII armor seen in most of the press materials actually has the ability to control the other 46 armors. Although you can see the Mandarin’s people destroying some of the more well-known movie armors in both the domestic and international trailers, another scene shows a small army of armors coming to the rescue.
Over the past few days we’ve seen plenty of new suits, from the Silver Centurion and Shotgun a few days back to the more recent Heartbreaker and Igor. Above, you can check out the Mark 39 Sub Orbital Suit “Gemini” that we actually got a look at earlier in the year thanks to Funko showing off some of its toys a bit too early. That particular one was called Deep Space Armor which set people clamoring about its potential appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy film. Of course, all that is being kept under wraps for the time being.
Here’s the official synopsis for Iron Man 3:
Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Jon Favreau, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton. The film opens May 3.
