NOTE: MYSTERIO STRIKES
As this is April 1st, the Comic Reel is on orange alert, Storm Watch, and any number of other attention grabbing monikers. Today is a day of extra vigilance as the truth could be easily obscured by the mists of conjecture and outright lies. Pranks abound in the press and the dreaded Rick Roll could be around any corner.
IRON MAN 3
Deadline reports that Drew Pearce, creator of the British superhero sitcom “No Heroics” has been tapped to write the script. “I’m told the plan is for him to start from scratch and work closely with [director Shane] Black,” writes Deadline’s Mike Fleming. I’m still surprised that Black isn’t doing the scripting job himself. Pearce also wrote the current draft of Marvel’s “Runaways.”
Release Date: May 3rd, 2013
Star Ryan Reynolds updates Collider on the film in a video interview:
Meanwhile, ComingSoon.net has a detailed description of the footage shown at CinemaCon and their own video interviews with Reynolds and co-star Blake Lively:
Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011
Todd McFarlane tells MyDVD Insider (via Latino Review), “I’m three quarters through [writing the script]. I’ll finish it and put it on a shelf for about a week. What usually happens is, I come back to it so I can see all the flaws. I do a rewrite and there’s a first draft at that point. Then I’ll start soliciting comments from people I trust to see if I can get the script into working shape. If I can’t, I’m open to someone coming in and helping me with it.” He also mentions any deal he makes with a studio for the film will include him as the writer, producer, and director. He admits that will result in a low budget; something he’s prepared for. “In this new version, there are no supervillains, archenemies or any of that. It’s just a spook movie, something scary going bump in the night. I think I can shoot that for almost next to nothing,” he says.
Release date: TBA
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER
Stan Lee reports via his Twitter account that he will be at a costume fitting today for his cameo in the film. “I knoweth not what role I’ll play, but of this thou canst be certain-no matter how brief my time on screen, my skill shall make it epic,” he writes.
Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011
ComicsFilmBlog (via Comic Book Movie) hears an interesting tale of just how Zack Snyder will modernize Superman. “It’s going to be set in 1938,” they write. “We’ll see the Man of Tomorrow in his proper context.” I guess that’s one way to make the character feel contemporary.
Release date: 2012?
DYLAN DOG: DEAD OF NIGHT
MTV News has a new still from the film:
Release date: April 29th, 2011
Deadline reports that director McG has started his own comic book imprint with the first title, “Haunted City,” already being developed as a motion picture for him to direct. “By creating our own original properties, we can guide their development across several media simultaneously and kick off a whole new chapter of our company as a full-spectrum content provider,” he says. “It also allows me to home-grow the movies I want to direct in the future.”
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
According to Back Stage (via Comic Book Movie), the film will shoot “in April in New Orleans.” Meanwhile, Latino Review has a pretty interesting description of the film’s opening moments: a prison break for the Batman. They also have some other plot details that I’ll keep behind the link for spoiler reasons.
Release date: July 20th, 2012
Our old friend hears that veteran director Mike Hodges has expressed interest in bringing the Shadow back to the movie screen. I actually like Hodges a great deal. His “Flash Gordon” is one of my favorite films.
Release date: TBA
LOCKE & KEY
In that same gallery, there is also this first photo from the “Locke & Key” pilot:
THE WALKING DEAD
Things That Go Bump (via Superhero Hype) reports that actress Tracy Middendorf has been cast as Lacey Greene, the eldest daughter of Herschel Greene. I guess that confirms the farm will be seen this year. Middendorf has appeared on such shows as “Angel,” “24,” and “Boardwalk Empire.”
Wrapping up a photo troika, Spinoff Online also found this picture of Booster Gold:
WONDERCON DAY ONE
I am in San Francisco, which means I have to move my car in a few minutes. Instead of the usual weekend drink, I’ll be reporting on some pretty cool stuff for CBR at the convention. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of Mysterio’s next visit.
