One of the strengths of the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that viewers are introduced to the characters over the course of 13 hours. They don't become heroes in the span of two hours, as they typically do in the films; instead, the television format allows producers to flesh out the stories, with the characters earning the title of hero over a 13-episode arc.

The first season of "Daredevil" provides perhaps the best example of that, as Matt Murdock didn't actually don the costume of his comic-book counterpart until the final episode of Season One. That wasn't much of an issue with "Jessica Jones" and "Luke Cage," as both teased the iconic costumes without dressing the characters in anything more than everyday clothes. And now, thanks to "Iron Fist" showrunner Scott Buck, we know that fans hoping to see the final Defender wearing his signature green-and-yellow costume and mask won't get their wish anytime soon.

As he explained to SFX Magazine, there wasn't a "good reason" to put Finn Jones' Danny Rand in costume in the first season. "Danny Rand is still discovering who he is as a hero and where he is going to be," he said, "so he’s not yet ready to put on a mask or a costume.”

That, of course, makes Daredevil the only one of Marvel's Netflix heroes to don a costume -- at least for now. With Danny being a billionaire and someone who's relatively known, it'll make an interesting predicament for him. Like with Matt, Danny can't risk exposing his identity, and this is something we'll see the show deal with during the first season. As Buck puts it, the lack of a mask "does become an issue for the character."

Jones previously played coy when faced with the question of whether Danny will be depicted in costume, saying, "There may be a costume, there may not be.”

Although fans may be disappointed they'll have to wait a bit for the hero to sport his iconic costume, Buck was quick to note that, while the story is aiming to be as grounded as possible, "Iron Fist" will explore the mystical aspects of Danny's character. After all, Jones himself confirmed the inclusion of Shou-Lao.

Arriving March 17 on Netflix, “Iron Fist” stars Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey and Rosario Dawson.
