What began over two years ago has found its way to the end. Twenty-seven issues after the Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, and David Aja reintroduced the comic reading public to the legend of Iron Fist, the series draws to a close. Make no mistake; this book did not burn up the sales charts, hence the reason for it ending. What it did do, though, was make people care about Danny Rand and the legend of the Iron Fist. Not "Power Man and Iron Fist." Iron Fist, alone.

While it did not find sales glory, this book did have praise lavished upon it from all corners, including CBR's very own Buy Pile. On that column, this book frequently found a home. Reading this issue, it's not hard to imagine why. Swierczynski baked a little of everything that is important in an "Iron Fist" story into this issue -- Hydra, Misty Knight, Luke Cage, K'un-Lun, Rand International -- and then closed the chapter. Danny Rand survives, but his world is forever altered. From here, Iron Fist will never be the same. From here, there are new paths for the next "Iron Fist" -- or maybe a re-imagining of "Power Man & Iron Fist" -- title to take.

The art is fittingly gritty in the modern parts of the story -- more so when Iron Fist is in costume and character -- giving the character a rough and tumble visage, as though made to order. Foreman does a great job of laying out the pages and adding in the details of the crumbling and re-emergence of Danny Rand's life. His effort on the present day adventures is juxtaposed with a sketchier and cross-hatched style used by Timothy Green II in the flashback sequences. Together the duo offers a magnificent visual tale. This is a visual high note for the title to go out on.

Included in this issue is a sneak preview of "Immortal Weapons" #1, featuring Fat Cobra. "Immortal Weapons" offers a chance for "Iron Fist" readers to continue to get their fix, just not necessarily through the adventures of Danny Rand. "Immortal Weapons" might even give readers a chance to find their own gateway into the next "Iron Fist" series, should one emerge. While this may be the end for now, this is a solid, enjoyable read that I'm glad I took a chance with.
