Comics....exciting and new! Come aboard, we're expecting you..

With Comic-Con International in San Diego only two weeks away, this is when serious panic sets in for those doing business at the show. Everybody's typical 8-10 hour work day suddenly stretches to 12 or 14 hours. Frantic calls are made to make sure this thing is covered or that thing is being taken care of. Are the hotel rooms all accounted for? Is air travel all sorted? What about that must-have-interview, has that been arranged? It's the insanity before the storm, and while those of us in the industry may bitch and moan about it, every one of us secretly thrives on it. Comic-Con is the Super Bowl at Christmas time for the comics industry, and it's time to wrap those final presents before kick-off.

As we do each and every year, Comic Book Resources will be there in full force, with a huge team of reporters covering every aspect of the convention, whether it be comic panels, TV/Film panels, major announcements from comics publishers, one-on-one interviews with media guests and whatever else might happen at the show. One of the things I've always told my reporters when covering Comic-Con is that it's not just enough to report the news, they have to report the experience. Anyone who's attended Comic-Con before knows that it's truly a bizarre and amazing spectacle, and it's our goal to bring that experience to you at home with our reporting, our photo parades, or even the video coverage we brought you for the first time last year. This year, we're going one step further - this year, we're going to become a part of the experience.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the CBR Boat.

Yes, that's right, the staff of Comic Book Resources will be living and working on a 42' yacht moored behind the convention center during Comic-Con. What better way to end a busy convention day than on the deck of a yacht in San Diego harbor with your laptop in one hand and a margarita in the other, all while watching the sun set on some unbelievable scenery? We'll be tucked away from the craziness of the Gas Lamp District, yet close enough to it all that should we want to join the insanity, it's just a hop, skip and a jump away, after all.

But that's not all! During the five days of the convention, CBR will launch something entirely new for the site - the CBR BOAT SHOW, a series of video interviews conducted by yours truly from the aft patio of the yacht. It's a boat, it's a show on the Web, it's on CBR - it's the CBR Boat Show! Myself and the CBR staff have been hard at work the last several weeks scheduling some really cool guests for the boat. We'll bring 'em on board, serve them a cold beer or a margarita, give them a chance to catch their breath, then once they're nice and relaxed we'll turn the cameras on. Who knows what will happen?

And while it sounds glamorous (and it is), we won't be partying our butts off for the entire convention. There's serious work to be done, of course, but we're going to enjoy ourselves every chance we get.

We're not quite sure how this will all work out, but we're really looking forward to it and hope we can bring you a side of the convention you've never seen before. Get ready, because the CBR Boat Show is just two weeks away!

Sincerely,

Jonah Weiland
