SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" #12, on sale now.

It doesn't seem like a month goes by anymore where Kyle Higgins and Hendry Prasetya don't drop another huge revelation on "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" readers. First, they turned everyone green, then they revealed that new villain Lord Drakkon was an alternate reality version of Tommy Oliver. Now, we find out what happened to that Tommy to turn him bad.

As anyone who read the issue knows, Drakkon became the Green Ranger and decided to stick with Rita Repulsa after the Rangers broke him of her spell. The latest issue of the BOOM! Studios series also featured appearances by the Falconzord and Tigerzord, a history-revealing monologue from Saba, and the introduction of a group of Ranger-related freedom fighters called The Coinless. With so much happening, we got in touch with Higgins to talk about a few of the issue's more surprising moments.

CBR: As a longtime Power Rangers fan, how excited were you to bring the Tigerzord and Falconzord into the story?

Kyle Higgins: Oh, it’s a blast. One of my favorite things in alternate timeline stories is seeing where certain iconography pieces ended up. So getting to use the Falconzord and Tigerzord in the way we have felt like a cool — and different — way to bring them into the series.

From a storytelling perspective, why was it important for Billy to accompany Tommy on this journey?

I love pairing unlikely characters together, and I think there are few pairings more unlikely than Billy and Tommy on a de-powered alternate timeline adventure, especially when you take into consideration our Billy one-shot back in issue 10. Now, Billy is without the comfort of being able to morph, and he’s going to need to dig deep in order to step up to the task at hand.

Lord Drakkon’s life pivots away from Tommy’s when he decides to stick with Rita. What drove him to make that decision?

I don’t know that I can say it’s just one thing. We’ll get into some of this down the line though, I promise!

It looks like the Coinless will play a large part in the coming story. What can you tell us about the group’s members?

They’re Earth’s last hope against Drakkon’s authoritarian rule. It’s an eclectic bunch, but they’re literally all that stands in Drakkon’s way of ruling the whole planet. So, there’s no pressure on them or anything!

What's it been like developing new looks for the members of the Coinless with Hendry?

Hendry brings so much to the table, every issue. With regards to the Coinless, I threw out the idea of resistance fighters and had a little reference for him, but he built everything from scratch. It makes my job so much easier, being able to world build with someone like Hendry.
