Ed Boon, NetherRealm Studios creative director, has confirmed that the upcoming DC Comics-themed fighting game “Injustice 2” will be coming to mobile. The preceding game in the series, “Injustice: Gods Among Us,” released on both mobile Android and iOS operating systems. Boon said “Injustice 2” will be released as a brand-new app, with more features and modes than the original, as well as a revamped combat system.

“Injustice 2” is the follow-up to “Injustice: Gods Among Us,” a fighting game that imagined a DC Comics universe in which the Joker tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane and destroying his adopted home city of Metropolis, causing the Man of Steel to become an uncaring tyrant. Batman assembled a team of heroes and villains to take down the fascist Superman.

NetherRealm has slowly been revealing new characters and gameplay videos for “Injustice 2” since the game’s announcement in 2016. Characters like Swamp Thing and Black Canary will make their debut in “Injustice 2,” alongside series staples like Batman, the Flash and Wonder Woman.

The Android and iOS versions of “Injustice: Gods Among Us” featured several characters that were exclusive to the mobile versions of the game, such as Reverse-Flash and Arkham Knight. NetherRealm has yet to reveal if this will be the case for “Injustice 2.”

Arriving May 16, “Injustice 2” is developed by NetherRealm Studios and will be playable on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Android and iOS.
