Inhumans TV Series Taps Director for First Two Episodes

Following the reveal of a rumored call sheet for The Inhumans just last week, the upcoming ABC series has nabbed its first director.

Following the reveal of a rumored call sheet for "The Inhumans" just last week, the upcoming ABC series has nabbed its first director with the addition of feature-film helmer Roel Reiné (via The Hollywood Reporter). He will helm the first two episodes of the series which will have a limited two-week run in IMAX theaters over Labor Day weekend. The Netherlands native is perhaps best known for his work on such films as "The Delivery" and "Admiral," but he has also worked on various television shows, including "Black Sails" for Starz and "Blood Drive."

Reiné is the second name to be attached to the project. Back in December, it was revealed that Scott Buck, who serves as showrunner on the upcoming "Iron Fist" series for Netflix, would be pulling double-duty with Marvel as he took on showrunner duties for "The Inhumans" on ABC.

Although the Inhumans first made their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the upcoming series will not serve as a direct spin-off of the series. "The Inhumans," which will consist of eight episodes for its first season, will tell the story of Black Bolt and the rest of the Royal Family, a group of beings with "diverse and singularly unique powers."

As previously revealed, the upcoming television series does not necessarily take the place of the previously planned feature film. Although the film currently has no release date on Marvel Studios' schedule, Kevin Feige has previously teased the possible inclusion of the royal family in Phase Four of the MCU and beyond.

"The Inhumans" is the third television series from Marvel Television to hit ABC. The first, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," is in its fourth season on the network, while their second effort, "Agent Carter," was cancelled following a low-rated second season.
