Will Smith won't be welcoming any aliens back to Earth until 2016.

Fox has pushed back the release date of Independence Day 2 by one year, moving the film from its original July 3, 2015 slot to a July 1, 2016 release. The shift puts the sequel's debut date nearly 20 years to the day after the first film's release. It also gives director Roland Emmerich and the rest of the creative team some extra time to finesse the sequel's story, and possibly make room for Will Smith as well.

As of now, there's talk that Michael B. Jordan has a role to play in the film, with original cast members Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman expected to return.
