"CSI: NY" alum Sela Ward will play the president of the United States in director Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day 2," Deadline reports. The two previously worked together on the 2004 disaster film "The Day After Tomorrow."

She joins a cast that already includes franchise veterans Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner, and fellow newcomers Maika Monroe, Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Travis Tope.

The original “Independence Day” opened in 1996, grossing more than $817 million worldwide.

Written by Emmerich, Carter Blanchard and Dean Devlin, the sequel is set to arrive June 24, 2016.
