"Boardwalk Empire" alum Travis Tope is in talks to board Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day" sequel, TheWrap reports.

He would join a rapidly expanding cast that includes franchise newcomers Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg, as well returning veterans Vivica A. Fox and Jeff Goldblum. Bill Pullman is also expected to reprise his role as President Whitmore from the 1996 blockbuster.

Tope, whose credits include "Men, Women and Children" and "The Town That Dreaded Sunshine," is said to be playing Charlie in the sequel, although no details are known about his role. Usher will star as Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith and Fox's characters, while Hemsworth is pegged as Whitmore's son-in-law.

“Independence Day 2″ opens June 24, 2016.
