IMAGE EXPO: Aaron & Latour Launch “Southern Bastards”

by  in Comic News Comment

Apparently, in the underbelly of the American South, there are a lot of guys named Jason.

As part of its rollout of new series at Image Expo in San Francisco, Image Comics revealed that Marvel creators Jason Aaron and Jason Latour are make their return to creator-owned comics this year as Aaron is now free of his previous exclusive with the superhero company.

To that end, Image has released a pair of covers from the creative team’s upcoming down home crime series called “Southern Bastards.” The pair took the stage earlier today, describing the series as a crime book set in a fictional Alabama county filled with lots of mean old bastards and the main bad guy — a high school football coach. This is a character Aaron came up with during “Scalped,” but he didn’t quite work into that series. “He’s a local celebrity, won a bunch of trophies and is burying bodies under the end zone and bleachers,” the writer said. “With this book, we have the chance to do everything together, and both being souther bastards ourselves, its right up our alley.”

Earl Tubb is an angry old man with a very big stick.

Euless Boss is a high school football coach with no more room in his office for trophies and no more room underneath the bleachers for burying bodies.

And they’re just two of the folks you’ll meet in Castor County, Alabama, home of Boss BBQ, the state champion Runnin’ Rebs and more bastards than you’ve ever seen.
