After chronicling the story of Kill Shakespeare in comics, IDW Publishing wants to let you tell your own with friends in an innovative board game -- but the company is looking for some help.

IDW announced this morning that it's using Kickstarter to fund the Kill Shakespeare board game, the flagship title of its new IDW Games division, in an effort to publish the project as intended. According to IDW, the $25,000 goal will go toward improving "the quality and content" of the game with a series of add-on components and expansions.

Kickstarter gives us an opportunity to directly engage the fans and essentially create a more immersive experience for them," IDW CEO Ted Adams told ICv2. "It offers us a chance to do rare and exclusive items and upgrades to our products that we don’t know how to do with any other distribution model.  I think more than anything, Kickstarter is a good way to introduce IDW Games to the world and gives us a chance to promote the relationship that we have with Pandasaurus Games.

Based on the comic series by Anthony Del Col, Conor McCreery and Andy Belanger, Kill Shakespeare: The Board Game is designed by Wolf Plancke and Thomas Vande Ginste (Yedo), with illustrations for the project by J.K. Woodward and Glenn Fabry.

While both Fantagraphics and Top Cow have utilized the crowdfunding platform, to great success, neither is as large as IDW, which ranks among the top five American comics publishers.
