IDW Publishing has announced a Stretch Armstrong comic book series that will tie-in to the recently announced Netflix show about the stretchy action figure brand that found major success from the mid ‘70s to the late ‘90s. The comic is titled Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters and will reimagine the hero as a teenager who fights evil alongside his friends.

Written by Kevin Burke and Chris Wyatt, with art by Savage Dragon artist Nikos Koutsis, the series will see a young Jake Armstrong and his friends exposed to chemicals that give them superpowers. Jake’s friends, Ricardo Perez, also known as Omni-Mass, and Nathan Park, who goes by Wingspan, will join him as they defend Charter City from the forces of evil.

"We're so excited to bring Stretch Armstrong into comics with IDW," Burke said in a press release. "Our teen superhero TV series is very much influenced by classic comics, so Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters having their own monthly print adventures feels like a perfect fit."

Along with writing the comic, Burke and Wyatt developed the Stretch Armstrong television revival alongside Victor Cook. Aluir Amancio of Superman Adventures fame will provide cover art.
