Amid the current uproar and bookmaking surrounding the potential next James Bond, have you wondered whether Idris Elba actually wants the iconic role? It turns out, he kind of does -- but it may be up to his fans to make it happen.

“If human beings want to know if there’s any connectivity between all of us, the one thing I’ve heard around the world universally is that, ‘You’ll be great at James Bond!’” the actor told Variety last month, during an interview about Cary Fukunaga’s “Beasts of No Nation." “If it should happen, that’s proof there’s connectivity amongst human beings. If everyone wants something, they can make it happen. That would be true.”

The trade paper, which only now dusted off the quotes, says that Elba emphasized that he's not been approached to play Bond, but he'd probably take the role if asked.

“It’s an amazing opportunity,” he said. “But who knows, man. I’ve stopped speaking about it now. Even speaking to you now, I shouldn’t have answered that question.”

Although Daniel Craig has signaled that his fourth Bond film, November's "Spectre," could be his last, Sony Pictures is holding out hope that he'll return for at least one more.
