Lord of the Rings actor Sir Ian McKellen apparently kept a journal while filming the iconic movie trilogy, and now, it’s posted online.

The actor tweeted about the journal’s existence on Friday and attached a link to it. The tweet read, "20 years ago, I arrived New Zealand to begin filming "The Lord of the Rings." I joined the cast on January 10, 2000. During that time, I kept a journal, which today would be called a blog Perhaps you'll enjoy reading about those heady times." The logbook is split into two accounts, titled “The Grey Book” and “The White Book."

McKellen starts the journals with an entry about the casting process, saying he looked forward to portraying J.R.R Tolkien’s iconic character and working with director Peter Jackson.

McKellen, 80, went on to portray Gandalf a second time in The Hobbit trilogy. The screen star has said in the past that he would like to reprise the role once again in Amazon’s much-anticipated Lord of the Rings series, which is scheduled to start filming this year.
