Every week, I will spotlight strange but ultimately endearing comic stories (basically, we're talking lots and lots of Silver Age comic books). Here is the archive of all the installments of this feature. Feel free to e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com if you have a suggestion for a future installment!

Today we look at a bizarre, yet awesome tale of Hal Jordan going through a strange test early in his Green Lantern career. The late, great Seth Fisher showed off his stunningly offbeat artwork beautifully in this graphic novel, which was written by J.M. DeMatteis and which was recently reprinted as two issues of DC's $8 reprint comics, so they should be easy to track down!

The book opens up with an intriguing beginning...

Soon Hal ends up in the Land of Odd, a strange city of extreme poverty right next to extreme wealth. He finds his way to a strange inn filled with strange people...

After a rest, he is consumed by questions - just check out how Fisher shows this...

As things began to become more clear, we get this brilliant sequence as Hal discovers that he is a Green Lantern (note that he does not yet know what a Green Lantern IS)...

Of course, we eventually find out that this world is created by Hal's mind, but that's only the BEGINNING of the story! Like I said, this is available in two issues of DC's $8 reprint comics (I think they came out in 2011), so they should be pretty easy to find. The original graphic novel should not be too hard to find used, either. Go pick it up! I did not even share any of Fisher's double-page spreads! They're awesome! I love this comic. I've featured it here on the blog in the past, but it is just that good!
