"Guardians of the Galaxy" star Zoe Saldana has signed on to play a school psychologist in the film adaptation of Joe Kelly and J. M. Ken Niimura's "I Kill Giants," while "The Campaign's" Madison Wolfe will star as protagonist Barbara Thorson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Published by Image Comics from 2008 to 2009, "I Kill Giants" won several awards, including the Gold Award at the Fifth International Manga Awards and a spot on the Young Adult Library Services Association's list of top graphic novels. The series follows a young girl who imagines a fantastical world where she holds extraordinary power in order to escape her harsh reality.

Director Anders Walter, producer Chris Columbus and Treehouse Pictures will helm the project. Kelly -- a member of Man of Action, which created Cartoon Network's "Ben 10" and Disney's "Big Hero 6" -- will pen the screenplay for the adaptation. The film will be Walter's first full-length project. He won an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film with his short "Helium" in 2014. Columbus will produce alongside Kelly and Man of Action Entertainment.
