A handful of network genre series, such as Fox’s Fringe and The CW’s Smallville, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries, have already been renewed, and Fox’s Human Target seems likely to live to see fall. But as the May upfront presentations draw closer, the futures of other shows aren’t as clear.
According to The Hollywood Reporter and the New York Daily News, ABC’s FlashForward, which just returned from a fourth-month hiatus, seems destined for cancellation. The alien-reptile invaders of V, however, may avoid the ax if the ’80s remake can maintain the modest ratings of its midseason return.
Surprisingly, NBC reportedly is considering a final season for Heroes, a once-promising series that all but begged to be put out of its misery this year. And Chuck, which was nearly canceled last season, could return on the strength of its cult following.
Human Target, loosely based on the DC Comics property, is the only Fox series left on the bubble. While the action-adventure hasn’t exactly been a ratings dynamo, it’s fared respectably in the face of Daylight Saving Time, and seems to be liked by network executives.
