Hulk Solo Movie ‘Not in the Works Right Now,’ Mark Ruffalo Clarifies

It’s not been a particularly good week for fans of Marvel’s Green Goliath, with Joss Whedon delivering a killing blow to a Planet Hulk rumor already crippled by a contradictory report.

Now enter Mark Ruffalo, whose double duty as Bruce Banner and the Hulk in The Avengers was met with a “phenomenal response” from audiences, leading a Marvel executive to tease the possibility of a third solo movie by 2015 (and that was before the Whedon-directed blockbuster had even opened in North America).

“A lot of folks have been asking about the Next Hulk,” the actor wrote last night on Twitter. “The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the Avengers2. No plans for stand alone. I am not giving up on another stand alone HULK. But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring.”

So not only is Marvel not pursuing an adaptation of the popular “Planet Hulk” storyline, but it’s not even developing a Hulk solo project at the moment. The studio’s Phase Three, which launches in November 2015 with the release of Ant-Man, has been confirmed to include Doctor Strange — but if there’s no Hulk standalone in the works yet, it seems likely fans wouldn’t see until, what, 2018 or so at the earliest? Y’know, if ever.

The news isn’t any better for the Green Goliath on the small screen, where the planned live-action pilot by Guillermo del Toro and David Eick appears to have stalled at ABC as the producers wait for “a particular writer” to become free.
