Back in November 2010, word broke that Marvel Television and ABC Studios were closing in on a deal with Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro and Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick to create a new Incredible Hulk television series for ABC. Del Toro continues assure fans that it remains in development, and revealed last August that the live-action drama won’t tie into the movie universe. Whether that’s still the case after the Hulk stole the show in Marvel’s The Avengers remains to be seen.
MTV’s Splash Page caught up with the director at Comic-Con International and asked once again about the project’s status. “I have had a couple of minutes with Marvel since Avengers, and they have the screenplay,” del Toro said. “We’re waiting for a particular writer to do a rewrite on the pilot. That’s where we are right now. But we’re still on.”
No stranger to screens big and small, the Hulk starred in the classic Lou Ferrigno/Bill Bixby TV series, as well as in a slew of cartoons — including Disney XD’s upcoming Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Of course, he’s also appeared in three movies: two solo outings plus Joss Whedon’s The Avengers.
Del Toro’s vision for bringing the Jade Giant to life includes a mix of CGI, prosthetics and puppetry. Seeing as how del Toro is the king of long-gestating projects, we’re waiting to see how quickly this series actually comes together.
