If the image, which depicts Jackman standing in the distance, evokes a classic Western film, that's certainly no accident. IGN reports a book of "Logan" stills provided to journalists by Fox at recent preview of its movie slate indicates director James Mangold and co-writers Michael Green and Scott Frank were influenced by the 1953 classic "Shane."

That film's iconic final scene, whose dialogue is excerpted in the "Logan" book, ends with the title character (played by Alan Ladd) riding off into the distance.

Set years after the epilogue of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Logan” centers on the efforts of Wolverine and Charles Xavier to protect a young girl named Laura, who has been confirmed as the Marvel Comics character X-23.

Opening March 3, 2017, “Logan” also stars Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen.
