Hugh Jackman might have wanted a vacation from making movies, but instead he got X-Men: Days of Future Past. The man best known as Wolverine in the X-Men film universe described why he agreed to sign on board the upcoming Bryan Singer movie in a new interview.

"I first heard about it around October or November. I was literally finishing The Wolverine and dreaming about lasagna, and about three weeks before the end, they told me," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "There was no way I was not going to be part of that."

And so he rejoined much of the original cast in director Bryan Singer's upcoming sequel. Of course, Jackman had also made a cameo in 2011's X-Men: First Class, and has appeared in the X-Men film universe more than any other actor. He said he has only seen an eight-page synopsis of Days of Future Past, and hasn't read a finished screenplay.

At this point, Jackman isn't committed to any other X-Men movies, though that could likely change in a couple of years once The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theaters. For now, as he told his manager, he just needs a break.

"I told my agent [WME's Patrick Whitesell], 'After Days of Future Past, I need to be home [in New York's West Village],' " Jackman said.

During the interview, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner recalled why Singer decided Jackman was the man to play Logan in 2000's X-Men. "Hugh was a lot taller than the character, and Bryan wasn't sure if he was the right guy," she said. "So I said, 'Let me send him up to you in Toronto,' and Hugh went up, and Anna Paquin was there already, and they did a scene together, and after Bryan yelled 'Cut!' one of the crewmembers said, 'Wow! That's Wolverine.' "

The sequel to 2011's X-Men: First Class features returning stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Holt and Jennifer Lawrence, joined by original X-Men trilogy cast members Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore. X-Men: Days of Future Past opens July 18, 2014.
