Hugh Jackman ‘99.9% Sure’ He’s Finished With Logan After ‘The Wolverine’ Sequel

In March, Hugh Jackman said recasting of the role of Wolverine is “inevitable,” and not long after, he even suggested Channing Tatum as a replacement. So, when the franchise mainstay recently spoke with SFX about X-Men: Days of Future Past, naturally the conversation turned to the actor’s own future as Logan.

Asked about the direction of the sequel to The Wolverine, Jackman replied, “I don’t know yet. We’re talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me.”

Saying he’d like to see the next film move to a different location, the actor reiterated that the story hasn’t been fully developed. However, he did suggest one comic worthy of adaptation.

“Well, of course we’re looking at ‘Old Man Logan,’ because that may be the only option left at this point!” Jackman said with a laugh, referring to the 2008-2009 Marvel storyline by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, set 50 years in the future, when supervillains have conquered and divided the United States. “We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out. You can tell from my answer that we’re still working it out.”

However, he pointed out, while he’s eager to see what director James Mangold & Co. come up with, he hasn’t “signed on signed on,” to the sequel. “I’m genuinely at that point where unless it’s better than the last one I’m not going to do it,” Jackman said.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23.
