Ghost Rider blazed his way through the Season Four premiere of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." But despite what you may have expected of the CGI-heavy character, the show's Visual Effects Supervisor Mark Kolpack reveals that the flaming-headed Spirit of Vengeance required some surprisingly practical visual effects in order to make his small-screen debut.

In the featurette, Kolpack explains that to simulate the lighting effects produced by a burning skull, he designed a special hood covered in flickering LEDs for Ghost Rider actor Gabriel Luna to wear. Luna then provided a motion capture performance for his character's more supernatural aspect, allowing the digital effects crew to focus on making the shot's of Ghost Rider's fiery skull all the more impressive and engaging for the audience.
