A supernatural crime drama inspired by the friendship between "Sherlock Holmes" author Arthur Conan Doyle and escape artist Harry Houdini has been picked up by Fox, the United Kingdom's ITV and Canada's Shaw Media.

Deadline reports that "Houdini and Doyle," which hails from Sony Pictures TV, David Titcher ("The Librarian"), David Shore ("House") and David Hoselton ("House"), sees the pair grudgingly join forces to investigate crimes with a supernatural element. They're described as "the original odd couple, with Houdini believing in nothing, Doyle in everything."

The 10-episode drama will go straight to series at Fox.

Syfy was developing a similar project a few years ago -- it had a steampunk slant, however -- but nothing ever came of it.
