Homeland returns returns Sept. 29 for its third season, but when it does, it'll do so without the world's most wanted terrorist, disgraced Sgt. Nicholas Brody.

A new teaser for the Showtime drama's third season is now online, featuring nothing but darkness as it slowly gives way to the show's logo and premiere date. Static and garbled noises play in the background, with only stray sentences making it through clearly.

"Brody? We don't know where he is," says one voice. Another voice, one that seemingly belongs to Brody, offers a few other gems: "No more." "I can't stay." "I need my passport."

The teaser's swirl of confusion echoes the state of play when Homeland resumes its story: The CIA was bombed and nearly decimated, with Mandy Patinkin's Saul Berenson now in charge, and Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison a willing participant in sending the bombing's prime suspect, Brody, on the lam. According to the show's recent TCA appearance, we won't see Brody for at least the first two episodes of the new season.

"He's the most wanted criminal in the world, so he has to lay low," said actor Damien Lewis, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I think when you do see Brody, what state will he be in? Is he swanning around a yacht on the Cote d'Azure with a bevy of Russsian beauties — which I pitched? Is he hidden away? Is he lost? When you do see him, I hope it will be interesting."
