Showtime has ordered a fifth season of the political thriller Homeland and a second season of the drama The Affair.

Although perhaps not the buzz generator it once was, the Emmy-winning Homeland is averaging 6 million weekly viewers in its rebooted fourth season as Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) continues her fight against terrorism following the execution of Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis).

Exploring the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship, The Affair stars Dominic West and Ruth Wilson as a teacher and waitress who meet in a resort town on Long Island. Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson play their spouses.

"In its fourth season, Homeland has brilliantly reinvented itself," It continues to capture the attention of a devoted fan base, and has provided an enviable platform for the successful launch of The Affair," David Nevins, president of Showtime Networks, said in a statement. "With thought-provoking, relevant and addictive storylines, both series have been embraced, dissected and much debated week after week. We're excited to see more from these complex shows in 2015."
