The mystery announcement teased for Marvel’s video game panel at Comic-Con International may have been revealed this weekend when a placeholder website briefly went live for a Hit-Monkey video game from Activision and High Moon Studios.
The site, registered to Marvel Characters Inc., included the above image of the deadly macaque bearing the “$#.! Just Got Bananas.” The art and company logos have since been removed. A Marvel representative had no comment when contacted by Comic Book Resources this afternoon.
Created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić, Hit-Monkey debuted in 2010 in his own one-shot as a Japanese macaque that picked up his lethal skills from an unnamed assassin rescued by his troop. Banished because of the violence he displayed, the macaque was unable to save his clan from a group of men sent to kill the assassin — so assuming the alias Hit-Monkey, he dedicates himself to wiping out hired killers.
Marvel’s video game panel will be held Saturday, July 14 at 1:45 p.m. in Room 6A of the San Diego Convention Center. The Hit-Monkey video game is scheduled for release in 2013.
