Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have unleashed the teaser trailer for director Brett Ratner's Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson as the legendary hero.

Based on Hercules: The Thracian Wars, the Radical Publishing miniseries by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya, the film is described as a revisionist take on the classic myth, with the demigod and a small band of companions wandering Greece as mercenaries until the King of Thrace hires them to train his men to become the greatest army of all time.

“The tone is a nice, even balance,” Johnson explained Monday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “I think of Gladiator and 300. There’s also personality in the movie. There’s fun. There’s some wink in the movie in a way that makes the audience feel good.”

Opening July 25, Hercules also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Aksel Hennie and Reece Ritchie.
