Hot off last week's announcement that Hellboy will be getting an R-rated movie reboot, the first piece of early art promoting the movie, Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, has been spotted in Cannes. It's a typically brooding yet gorgeous piece from creator Mike Mignola, focusing on Hellboy holding his signature pistol, the Good Samaritan, with a cigarette in his mouth.

It isn't that elaborative, but it'll certainly whet the appetite of fans who are anxiously awaiting this film from Neil Marshall (The Descent), starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as the title character. The creative team have not revealed much apart from their ambition of a darker and more gruesome direction than Guillermo del Toro's two films -- Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008).

Andrew Cosby, who's co-writing the script with Mignola and Christopher Golden, recently said in an interview with Silver Screen Beat: "I can't really talk about specifics with regard to the story, which they're keeping a pretty tight lid on at the moment, but I can say that this is a darker, more gruesome version of Hellboy. Neil [Marshall] said from the very beginning that he wanted to walk a razor’s edge between horror and comic book movie."

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen does not have a release date at this time.
