Hellboy: Rumored Script Details Surface For Movie Reboot

by  in Movie News Comment

The big screen Hellboy reboot, which recently dropped the subtitle from its original Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen title, is currently in the process of casting the various characters of the B.P.R.D.’s universe. Following the recent announcements of Ian McShane and Milla Jovovich joining the cast, some rumored plot points have surfaced. Remember, none of these rumors are confirmed, so take each one with a pinch of salt for now.

There have been discussions of the rating Hellboy will receive, with creator Mike Mignola open about his feeling that an R-rating is needed for the character. The new rumors, via Splash Report, reiterate that the reboot will be rated R, with a darker horror story than the lighter del Toro films. The new movie will include scenes of severed heads, and a giant creature with giant tentacles that “wraps themselves around the London Bridge, hence why the film will be filmed in London.”

The B.P.R.D. headquarters will be relocated to a “snow-capped mountainside,” and is filled with “arcane artifacts: cryptid skeletons, freakish things encased in formaldehyde, period weapons. Fans will also get to see the symbol of a hand holding a sword, with the words: IN ABSENTIA LUCI, TENEBRAE VINCIUNT.”

If the rumors prove true, the film will feature Abe Sapien, Alice Monaghan and Major Ben Daimio in the B.P.R.D. Alice can hear dead people, whereas Major Ben Daimio is a “rugged military type with cold, calculating eyes, close-cropped hair and three jagged scars raked across his grizzled face.”

It’s also rumored that we’ll see Gruagach, a “fairy creature that looks like a pig,” and is out for revenge on Hellboy due to a slight from their shared past. He’ll be joined by Baba Yaga the witch, King Arthur, and Merlin.

Current plans reportedly involve the reboot kickstarting an entire Cinematic Universe. It’s no surprise, then that the new rumors include a note that Hellboy closes with a development demanding a sequel

Debuting in theaters in 2018, Hellboy will be directed by Neil Marshall and star David Harbour as Hellboy and Ian McShane as Trevor Bruttenholm, Hellboy’s adoptive father and a prominent member of the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. The film does not yet have a release date.
