In May, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola announced an R-rated reboot of the franchise. Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson is on board to produce, and Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Mignola have penned the script for the film. Recently, Mignola revealed that the reboot, one which will be R-rated and take the franchise in a darker direction, was actually first conceived to follow the two movies that director Guillermo del Toro did. However, when del Toro didn’t want to be part of the new story, Ron Perlman took himself off the table which paved the way for Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) to take the director’s chair and for Harbour to step in as the lead.

Directed by The Descent‘s Neil Marshall, the upcoming Hellboy reboot is written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola and stars David Harbour in the title role. The film does not yet have a release date.
