The Last of Us is based on the Naughty Dog video game of the same name, which was released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in 2013, earning overwhelming praise from critics and players alike for its tense gameplay, compelling performances and powerful narrative. The original game was set in a post-apocalyptic America overrun by fungus-infected monsters known as "Clickers." The Last of Us Part II, a sequel game set five years after the events of the first game, was released in 2020 for the PlayStation 4. Naughty Dog has also released a remake of the original game, titled The Last of Us Part I, for the PlayStation 5, featuring revised gameplay and enhanced combat and exploration, among other improvements.

The Last of Us Will Earn the Fans' Respect

Although Ramsey has admitted to having never actually played The Last of Us, the actor has stated that the HBO adaptation will retain the spirit and tone of The Last of Us game. "I think people are going to love it. It very much follows the emotional beats of the game, and it's very respectful of the game and honors the game," Ramsey said. "But [the live-action series adaptation] brings a new life into it."
