Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell has revealed she's no longer interested in taking on the role of the Doctor on Doctor Who.

In 2015, long before Peter Capaldi announced the 10th season would be his last, Atwell revealed she would love to be the next Doctor. So naturally, when it was confirmed that not only showrunner Steven Moffat but also Capaldi will leave the sci-fi series as the end of this season, Atwell's name was repeatedly mentioned in speculation about who might play the Thirteenth Doctor.

However, since then, Atwell has apparently changed her mind. During a panel this weekend at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in London, Atwell said she doesn't want the role, and instead would love to see Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge cast as the Doctor.

“I don’t want to play it," Atwell said. "No. It’s just not my thing, but I really respect it. I’m a big fan of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, though. She plays the lead in Fleabag. There were talks of her being the next Doctor, and she’s so funny and eccentric and unique; she’d be great. I can’t really see anyone other than her playing it.”

It's worth noting that the most recent rumors, which point to Luke Treadaway (Fortitude) and Sacha Dhawan (Iron Fist) as frontrunners, contend the show's producers are no longer wish to introduce a female Doctor.

Starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts and Matt Lucas as Nardole, Doctor Who airs Saturdays on BBC and BBC America.
