Death is coming for at least one Valiant hero in "Harbinger Renegade" #5 -- and apparently it will be both on-panel and "shocking."

In what could be interpreted as either a practical pre-cautionary move, or a cynical piece of marketing for their upcoming storyline, Valiant Entertainment will package all copies of "Harbinger Renegade" #5 with a "specially manufactured advisory overlay – complete with a clearly marked warning label – that will ship on all copies of the issue at no extra-added cost."

Pitched as an ideal jumping-on point that will lay the foundations for the upcoming "Harbinger Wars 2" crossover event, "Harbinger Renegade" #5 will mark the first issue of the four-part "Massacre" storyline, which the publisher promises will be "one of the most consequential and shocking single issues Valiant has published to date."

According to the issue's synopsis,

As a newer, deadlier H.A.R.D. Corps team lays siege to an American metropolis, one of Valiant’s most beloved heroes will pay the ultimate price – and the immediate and lasting ramifications of their death will send shockwaves across the Valiant Universe.

Toyo Harada’s former protege – Alexander Solomon, a “psiot” with the ability to predict and analyze potential futures – has been waiting for this moment. With the Harbinger Renegades – Peter Stanchek, Faith, Kris Hathaway, and Torque – now reunited as a result of his covert manipulations, his ultimate gambit can now begin. But he’s not the only one who has been watching. Major Charlie Palmer has just re-assigned a new division of the militarized psiot hunters codenamed H.A.R.D. Corps to active duty…and they’re about to bring a torrent of blood and calamity roaring into the streets of a major American metropolis for an all-out firefight.

Neither the issue's cover nor the "advisory overlay" offer much in the way of clues as to who is going to get into harm's way, so curious readers will have to buy the book to find out which hero will meet his or her end.

Written by Rafer Roberts and drawn by Darick Robertson, "Harbinger Renegade" #5 goes on sale in July.
