Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, whose release was already pushed back nearly a year, is being shuffled again, this time by just two weeks to accommodate IMAX. Instead of Jan. 11, the MGM/Paramount Pictures fairy tale re-imagining will open Jan. 25.
The IMAX experience continues to be the most immersive and entertaining way to see films and we are thrilled to be releasing Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D now in late January so moviegoers have an opportunity to see the film in this way,” Megan Colligan, Paramount’s president of domestic marketing and distribution, said in a statement.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola, the action-horror-comedy was originally scheduled for a March 2012 release but was moved so the studios could better market the film’s 3D aspects and take advantage of star Jeremy Renner’s increased profile following Marvel’s The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy.
Also starring Famke Janssen, the film picks up 15 years after the harrowing experience at the gingerbread house, with Hansel and Gretel now ruthless bounty hunters dedicated to eradicating witches.
